MESTRE BISCUIM

Mestre Biscuim started capoeira and brazilian percussion at the age of 10 years, in Fortaleza, Brazil. He travelled round Brazil for over 15 years to gain valuable experince in Capoeira.

Travelling to Fortaleza to train with Mestres Paulao Ceara, Espiro Mirim and Joao Baiano, Natal with Mestres Canelao, Iranir and Indio, Bahia with Mestres Itapoan, Lua Rasta and many street rodas, Minas Gerais with Mestre Mao Branca, Espirito Santo visiting the academy of Mestres Cabixaba and Luiz Paulo, Rio de Janeiro with Mestre Boneco and visiting the academy of Mestre Peixinho, Niterio with Mestres Paulinho Sabia and Guito, Brasilia with Mestres Tabosa, Esquisito, Cal and Adilson.

Biscuim started music classes at schools of samba, maracatu and performances in the street, learning many rhythms of the north east and the rhythms of Samba from Rio. Later on to give many street performances, playing at many Carnivals and joining many bands to play shows.

At the age of 17, Biscuim started to give capoeira classes to the street children around his local area and started the work of his project NAEP – Nucleo de Arte e Educacao Popular.

At 19 he began giving classes to adults in fortaleza, where he continued his work with the local community. In 2004 Biscuim made his first trip to Europe, visiting the UK, Switzerland and France, working with locals groups with Capoeira and music. In 2007 he returned to Europe visiting groups in France, Germany, Switzerland, Holland and then deciding begin his cultural work with Capoeira and music in England.

Biscuim has supported many events around the UK giving workshops and shows with Capoeira and music. He has regular classes in London and Essex, where his aim is to share his knowledge and promote the benefits of Capoeira and Brazilian rhythms. He is also continuing his project work with children working in schools promoting not only capoeira and music, but Brazil and its culture.

In June 2009 Mestre Biscuim was honored to receive his Black cord from Mestre Paulao in recognition of his dedication, knowledge and work with Capoeira.

PROFESSORA SININHA

Professora Sininha started capoeira in 2001 with Professor Sangue Bom in Harlow, Essex. In 2002 she went to Brazil to train at the Senzala academy in Rio de Janeiro. She began teaching children capoeira in 2003 and then with adults in 2004. In 2007 Emma began training with Contra Mestre Pedro in Cambridge and later this year went on to receive her blue cord (Instructor) at the Edinburgh Batizado.

In the beginning of 2009 her training took a new direction with Mestre Biscuim and formed a new training and working relationship. In June 2009 Sininha received her Green cord from Mestre Biscuim and Mestre Paulao. During this year she also travelled to Fortaleza, Ceara, to help with the projects of Mestre Biscuim, giving free workshops of boxing and capoeira to the kids from the local favela. She was also invited to help with the Batizado of local kids group in the favela Baixa Pau.

Today Sininha helps to run Grupo Capoeira Brasil UK with Mestre Biscuim and helps to support the other groups in the UK. She has organised many successful Capoeira events and Batizado’s in Essex. She is also Director and one half of BrazilArte.org a social enterprise dedicated to Brazilian Arts.

MESTRE PAULAO CEARA

Until 1989 – Mestre Paulão Ceará trained and taught with Group Senzala.

1989 – Mestre Paulão founded Grupo Capoeira Brasil with Mestres Boneco and Mestre Paulinho Sabia. Further developing the capoeira from Fortaleza in Ceara. The group has growing quickly and has become one of the defining style organisations in Brazil.

1993 to now – Mestre Paulão moved to the Netherlands and gives shape to the development of capoeira in Europe. Mestre Paulão has trained teachers and a number of Brazilian students to teach here in Europe.. Meanwhile, Grupo Capoeira Brasil now has schools in the following countries: Australia, Belgium, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Poland and Sweden. The classes are taught by graduados, instrutores, Profesores and Contra-Mestres, under the supervision of Mestre Paulão.

Since 1993, Mestre Paulão numerous workshops, TV appearances and demonstrations at home and abroad. Mestre Paulão is a welcome guest at the batizados of other organisations, and travels around the world to visit other capoeira events.

Mestre Paulão has cooperated with several DVDs and a books.

GRUPO CAPOEIRA BRASIL

Grupo Capoeira Brasil was formed on January 14, 1989 in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Under the supervision of its three founding Mestres, Mestre Boneco, Mestre Paulinho Sabia, and Mestre Paulao Ceara, Grupo Capoeira Brasil is today one of the most highly recognized groups in the world. Currently, there are greatly respected and qualified Mestres, Contra Mestres, Professors and Instructors teaching throughout Brasil, other parts of South America, Asia, Europe, the United States, Africa and Australia.What makes Capoeira Brasil such a successful group is the close ties of Mestres and Instructors to each other and the group itself.

Each teacher invests his time and energy in supporting others within the group and the Capoeira community in general but teaching workshops, traveling to events, and sending and receiving students to train. Your instructors relationship to the Capoeira world is what helps you as a student develop into a better capoeirista. Through traveling and exchanging with those both inside and outside of their direct community, Capoeira Brasil Mestres, Contra Mestres and teachers are able to remain on the cutting edge of Capoeira’s development. By combining new techniques with the traditional elements and roots of Capoeira, Grupo Capoeira Brasil continues to grow and remains one of the largest groups in the world.
